London MarkandRob

Fellsman

More and more Swaledale Runners are trying their hand at ultras and the Fellsman is a tough one, with 62 miles of running over rough terrain. Conditions were reasonably dry, but the cold at night made navigation challenging. Tim Grimwood finished in a fantastic 17th position overall, in 13.37. Josh Westwood and Neil Bowmer followed, in 18.28 and 18.34 respectively. Stuart Clarkson in 19.28 and Ros Blackmore in 19.30 both smashed their previous best times and Heather Hodgson ran a brilliant 21.35 in her first (and definitely not her last) attempt at the event.

Marathons

Rob Dashwood and Mark Smith had a fantastic day at the London Marathon, smashing their PBs and raising thousands of pounds for charity. There was also a PB at Manchester Marathon for Vicky Dykes, accompanied by Martin Randall, with Grace Gilpin hot on their heels.

Wensleydale Wander

Swaledalers were out in force at his local event. On the short course Kevin Bond was 6th overall, Aimee Jones 2nd lady and Jim Coldwell 10th overall. On the long course Nigel Copland made top 10, while Ros Blackmore was 1st lady and Amy Kerr 3rd lady.

Dales Traverse

Ben Hamilton, Michael Devereux-Cole and Ian Oldham all finished this epic 55K run in the in top ten, with Emma Roper 3rd lady.

Sierra Nevada Marathon

Keith Wigley finished 2nd overall , just 2 minutes behind one of the UKs top professional ultra runners What an astonishing achievement!

Hardmoors 55

Steve Ramsay and Nicki Buckett showed great determination and resilience to finish this tough ultra.

Thirsk 10 Mile

Congratulations to the 5 Swaledalers who took part in the Thirsk 10. Nigel Copland was first home for the club, with Martha McBarron, Annelie Whitfield, Jennifer Smithson and Gavin Hardisty all pushing each other to a close finish.

Heartbeat Hobble fell race

An extremely boggy, muddy and wet experience – but the two Swaledale ladies who braved the course both won prizes! Congratulations to Aimee Jones who was 8th in the open category and Ros Balckmore who was 1st FV55.

Croft races

Another new race in our area! Congratulations to Isabel Mordue who was 2nd senior lady in the 5K and to Heather Hodgson, first FV50 in the half marathon.

NYSD Cross country

Swaledale Runners rejoined the North Yorkshire & Durham Harriers League for the 2023/24 season after an absence of over 20 years. Incredibly at the final race on home turf in Richmond Swaledale ladies emerged as league winners, ahead of Stockton Striders in second and New Marske Harriers in third. Several ladies will also be receiving medals in their individual age groups: Isabel Mordue (senior women, 3rd equal); Jess Young (vet 35 women, 1st); Helen Burrell (vet 60 women, 1st); Helen Nicholson (vet 60 women, 2nd); Martha McBarron (vet 65 women, 1st ).
